Year of Women: Inspirational Women in Tech
2018 marks 100 years since the partial suffrage of women. The Year of the Women is a world-wide conscious effort to honour all the women across the globe disrupting the status-quo, rewriting history and smashing the glass ceiling. Yet, our obligation is not fulfilled.
With a new generation of young women and men seeking answers about their place in this world, Digital Republic understands the importance of recognising the contribution of women of all backgrounds in digital and technology.
With a default image of a industry still grappling with diversity and inclusion, we wanted to highlight some trailblazing women, inspirational to us all. These women in tech are blazing a new path, and are shaking up the industry for the better.
As a self-described problem-solver working at the “intersection of data, digital and strategy”, Ms. Adewunmi is a triple threat. Working as Public Sector Consultant for Think Big Inc., the big data and advanced analytics solution firm, and as the Head of Data Infrastructure for the U.K.’s Government Digital Service, Adewunmi knows everything there is to know about data strategy. With credentials like this, we were not surprised to see her giving a TEDx Talk, or guest starring at the Code for America Summit.
A senior developer working at TfL for over a decade, Ms. Condor-Farrell is a woman with many talents. Highly proficient in Java and Web development, Dionne is a dedicated advocate for the diversitifying of the tech industry. Sitting on the Women in Tech committee, member of the TfL Women Staff Network Group and founding member of UKBlackTech, Dionne demonstrates her passion for inclusivity and diversity through her industry knowledge and expertise
Kathryn Parsons MBE
Kathryn Parsons is a British tech entrepreneur who is also co-founder and co-CEO of tech companyDecoded that aims to increase digital literacy. A University of Cambridge alum, Parsons sits on several tech advisory boards. Using her expertise and industry connections, Ms. Parsons is a strong advocate for women in tech. “If you put this powerful tool set in the hands of more women, more diverse problems would get solved and more businesses would get created to make the world a better place.
Daughter of a swansea steelworker, Anne Boden is a force within the FinTech industry. A vocal champion of gender equality in the tech (and wider) industries, Ms. Boden is the CEO and founder of Starling Bank- the UK mobile only bank account. Creating waves on and off the tech industry, Anne has made conscious efforts improve the lack of diversity within her own company- like already having 40% women on executive boards vastly outperforming other finance and tech companies.
